Of the many great rides I enjoyed in Victoria on recent my moto-gp tour, this one certainly stood out.

I had faint memories of this road in my mind before riding it. I remember this road from when I was very young on holiday with my parents, caravan in tow. The water level is much lower now than I recall however the road seems almost unchanged.

I rode it from the Hume weir near Albury over to Corryong. After crossing the Murray you will ride along the side of the Lake Hume and enjoy a well surveyed road with good surface that following the contours of the lake.

The road retains its old pre war rope style roadside posts and has a real charm to it I cant exactly explain. I hardly saw a car the whole trip. Walwa makes a nice stop friendly folk in the shop with reasonable coffee.

(update, I visited ten years later and so busy could not even find a park at this shop on weekend it has all changed – but the riding remains great)

You can locate this road on the map, expand to see the list.

These ‘good road’ posts were published 2006-2008. At some point the original images and descriptions became out of date and I moved overseas. I archived them here to update when I ride Australia again. This collection is just my own personal riding records, not a definitive list.

    1. If doing this ride turn off and go thru the town of Granya and ride the Granya gap road. Great surface, beaut selection of corners. Turn around at the bridge at the other side and ride it back the other way then continue on to Walwa.

    2. Hey thanks for the tip, I shall try that. Next tour I might focus on the areas from here to the Victorian high country.

    3. I grew up in Vic in a region called the wimmera which in not far from the murry region and after living in Brisbane for 15 years now still think country Vic has the best scenic areas I have ever seen in Australia. Unlike most of Aust Vic is pretty much a green state all year round. I am not a motor bike rider but use to be right into cycling but gave it up when I moved to Qld has I found I didn’t enjoy the rides as much as I did in Vic.

    4. I think that’s true Gardau, despite the very dry conditions we had prior to my tour Victoria was noticeably greener. It is a very scenic state.

    5. Hi guys..Is the road ur talking about the C546 from Bullioh to Corryong, Ta
