Book Review.

A Fast Bike to Byzantium is the first of a series of books written by Andy C Wareing available on Kindle all with the theme of A Fast Bike to ‘a destination’ and all are about Andy’s moto adventures when he was a younger.

I enjoyed his first book and wished it was longer. I finished it before I reached Auckland on my recent New Zealand ride. The book tells about a ride from UK to Turkey that was made a long time ago which is a slight detractor for me even though Andy tells a good tale.

Whilst I found it interesting to read about former countries of Europe and how borders and things have changed so much there I do prefer moto travel books to be more recent. I am always looking for inspiration for my next trip and thus reading about travel from long ago is less helpful to me in that respect however Andy provides lots of interesting history, some quite thought provoking which I enjoyed.

I am probably not going to read the next book in the Fast Bike series just yet where Andy goes to Nordkapp despite that being a destination I am aiming for because the story is from too long ago to shed any light on what it is like to motorcycle tour Norway today and may give me a false impression about things there.

However Andy is a good writer and quite a wordsmith, skills I wish I possessed.

Perhaps after I have ridden there I will download Andy’s Norway ride and compare how the country has changed. That will be interesting.

First I have to make that trip happen.
